Welcome Back and Happy 2016! We had a GREAT start to the new year in fourth grade! On our first day back, we talked about resolutions and what they mean. We also talked about creating SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely) Goals. Goal Portfolios were created in our Google Classroom and students worked on creating two school goals and one friendship and community goal. This goal portfolio is something that I will work on with each student throughout the year. We will have check in points at the start of each month where they stop to reflect the progress they have made so far. Curious to see what your student set as their goal? Just have them show you our Google Classroom! I'm thrilled to be working with each of them to accomplish each of their goals and continue to grow in 2016.
On Wednesday, we had our first class field trip to the Kennedy Center to see the National Symphony Orchestra. There were over 2,000 fourth grade students from Fairfax County in one auditorium...so you can imagine the energy in the room! Below is a list of what the class learned from the concert:
A BIG thank you to Mrs. Perry for chaperoning! Thank you to those who attended Back to School Night! I very much enjoyed meeting all of you. If you were unable to attend Back to School Night, no worries! I sent the forms home with your child and I will send out the Conferences and Volunteer Sign-Up sheets via email. I am looking forward to work together as partners in your child's education! Sincerely, Ms. Diapoulis
Dear Parents, We had a very successful first day in fourth grade! I am beyond excited for the year to come and to get to know all of the students. Today, we reviewed classroom and school procedures as well as activities to get to know eachother as a class. I am thrilled to have a big class of readers! We took a break today to have snack and read and it was such a joy to watch the kids be so enthralled in their books. My goal for the first week is to form a strong community for the students. It's really important to me that they get to know their classmates and make new friends to be able to set that foundation for learning. Every day this week we will be doing a "lunch challenge" where I challenge each student to learn new things about the classmates they sit with at lunch. For the remainder of the week we will be working on creating our "Hopes and Dreams" and our class rules. We are starting our first math unit on Patterns tomorrow (Wednesday) with a pre-assessment to see what your child knows! I look forward to working together as partners in your child's learning. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns during this first week. Thank you! Sincerely, Ms. Diapoulis |
